  1. I am surprised it took this long for someone to Crack down this hard on Star Trek fan films. I find it a garbage move but with all the bs with YouTube in fair use fan films will most likely become a thing of the past.

    1. See I personally think that fan films are mostly garbage and studios and creators have every right in the world to control the content they own or created. Maybe fans should stop trying to recreate ideas someone else came up with and create their own. Fans today want everything for free. They hate that ads exist but somehow want shows to have high production value even though they can’t earn money. They want to steal licensed content and get mad when the people who own that content and are allowing you to use it want to control their property It’s ridiculous. Just because you are a fan of something doesn’t mean you own it and can use it any way you wish.

      1. I do think that most are garbage. I think some are great for what they are. Are they Trek TV Show production value? Not by a long shot. I also agree that yes fans want free. But fans should be able to express themselves. I do agree just because you’re a fan doesn’t give you the right to market and sell without authorization and without permission. But the whole situation could have been handled better. That’s why I came up with my own ideas for the rules that seemed more win win and still slanted towards CBS / Paramount as they own the franchise.

That’s why when I wrote my screenplay and fiction recently it is all my own. I have a hard time writing when tied to someone elses stuff compared to making it up as I go.
